Cowboy – the independent and economically healthy manufacturer of advanced and sophisticated electric bicycles has just released its first all-Road bike that allows riders to escape more easily from urban streets with stone-paved paths to more green pasture terrain.
To do this, Cowboy's new electronic bikes feature wider 60mm diameter tires and suspension systems built into the front fork and saddle to absorb bumps on the road. They are also equipped with better grip pedals to prevent slipping during jumps, a large 540Wh removable battery for a maximum range of 120 km (75 miles), and integrated rear suspension for carrying additional items.
I spent time test riding Cowboy's electronic bikes on a variety of terrains, and they truly excel on all the best roads. Initially, the saddle suspensions are luxurious and something I hope Cowboy will extend to the rest of their assembly. The inverted front fork suspensions and wider tires also do their job, making these very heavy electronic bikes feel completely solid on the road, in packed dirt, and gravel. Don't be mistaken, I wouldn't want a cross for my next multi-day bike tour, but it can easily transition from city bikes to occasional rural adventurers.
These bikes also look great, in my opinion. The three new metallic satin colors are earthy, including a calm dark gray, a lovely moss green, and a "mushroom" color that seems to have changed from tarnished silver to muted purple to a dazzling gold with a shift of light. The top tube on the frame creates an interesting floating effect as it splits around the battery.
Otherwise, these battery-powered electric bikes – available in both step-over and step-through frames – are propelled by a 250W motor powered by a rear hub with adaptive power with a maximum speed of 25 km/h in the European Union, as with Cowboy's other electric bikes.
The Cross is also Cowboy's first electronic bike to feature new self-diagnostic tools of Check My Bike that allow the company to automatically monitor the health of its rolling computers with the intention of keeping riders on the road longer. The company also adds a new Live Challenges gaming feature to the app that promises to create the "most enjoyable and exciting riding experience". Sure.
All these features are complemented by a number of technological embellishments that Cowboy is known for, such as crash detection, theft detection, and an excellent proprietary app with integrated Google Maps navigation, which also makes the timing service easy.
At launch, Cowboy prices the Cross at 3,499 euros (about $3,800) before it ultimately goes up to 3,999 euros. Sales start today.
